    I think that this topic is very important with regards to climate change. Coastal degradation and erosion was brought up many times during the 4 slides in 4 minutes presentation today and it highlights the importance of coastal areas and the need for increased protection.

    Hard engineering measures such as seawalls, groynes, gabions and breakwaters are used in Singapore to protect our coastal areas. However, these are highly expensive measures and destroy the pristine conditions of coastal areas. Soft engineering measures such as planting of vegetation like mangroves can be a more effective way to manage coastal areas.
